Sertoma International, the nation’s third oldest civic
organization, has introduced SERTOMA SAFEEARS!© … to hear the future, a
national service project for use by its nearly 700 clubs to promote the
important message that noise-induced hearing loss is preventable.
Sertoma’s focus is supporting the more than 50 million people with
speech, hearing and language disorders. In following its mission of
SERvice TO MAnkind, the Sertoma clubs’ community awareness activities
focus in three areas: youth organizations/schools, workplaces and
general awareness.
In following the SERTOMA SAFEEARS!© objectives, the Brainerd Area
Sertoma Club will be increasing awareness about noise-induced hearing
loss (NIHL) and motivating audiences to take action against NIHL by
understanding the problem and its solutions.
The Brainerd Area Sertoma Club will spread the word that 30 million
people are at risk in the workplace, in recreational settings and at
home by exposure to dangerous levels of noise each day at the Crow Wing
County Fair, Brainerd International Raceway Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals and
North Central Speedway.
