Over 100 Sertoma members, special guests, and spouses
gathered at Lum Park on Friday, August 15th for the special
30th Anniversary Picnic. The weather was excellent, the food
was wonderful, and the camaraderie was outstanding. Between
Charlie Bartels and Brenda Kelley and her husband of DB
Kelley Meats, everyone was stuffed with wonderful brats and
side dishes. Northeast Liquor donated the beverages.
The program consisted of reminiscing by past Presidents as
well as a speech from our current President,Mark Korte. Mark
is very enthusiastic about the future of our club and our
current and past achievements. Tom Rosenberger, Les Franz,
and Mark Puschinsky related many of the things that made our
club great including the driving force of Jon Haapajoki.
Pooch remarked, "Before I knew it, I was getting myself
elected president of the club and running for international
offices." Karen Owen who is our club historian brought many
of the displays and also spoke as District Governor and the
first woman President of the Club. Special guests included
Sheila and Tom Redding from South Dakota, David and Jane
Borson (she is a retired teacher of the deaf and hard of
hearing) and some old faces including Mike Manion and Brenda
Meech. Brenda is intended to rejoin the club in the spring.
Special thanks to Kathy Williams for being the photographer
and helping with the article. Bob and Sandra Ehrich worked
very hard on putting this event together and it was
certainly a big success. |
