A
visit from a fellow service club was in order at today's
Brainerd Noon Sertoma meeting. Our speaker brought warm
regards and greetings from Kiwanis. Chris Robinson spoke to
the group about the First Annual Youth Triathlon which will
be held at Whipple Beach in Baxter on Saturday, August 23rd
starting at 4 p.m. This event was organized to encourage
youngsters to develop healthy interests in outdoor
activities. The triathlon is divided into two age levels
(10-14) and (5-9) and will consist of running, swimming, and
bicycling courses. The cost is $25 per entry. At present,105
participants are registered and they have room for at least
200 more. Entry forms are available from the Kiwanis web
site and actual online registration if at the midwest events
site and under theTri& Du page. The Kiwanis primary concerns
are safety first, fun, and competition. Each participant
will receive a t shirt and an medal for finishing with the
top three in each age bracket awarded special prizes .
Chris's club has enlisted the help of the neighborhood in
providing a safe environment, especially for the biking.
They are looking for volunteers who will be stationed all
along the events to make sure that children are well
supervised. Chris sees this as encouraging those couch
potatoes who have never learned to swim or bike to get out
and join in this fun competition. Chris and his wife have
encouraged his young son to participate in other events held
in Minnesota since he was five years old. The event is
actually drawing some competitors from the children of the
adults competing in the Sunday Event which is also scheduled
for that same weekend. The Brainerd Kiwanis Club is 80
members strong and other projects include their park, Bug
Awards (Bring UP Grades) and a community clean-up. |

for people with all kinds of talents to get
involved. The project will take from early
September to the middle of October and needs
judges, drivers, stuffers, business
donations, and flyer designers to mention
just a few. See Bonnie to help out! |

Schedule |
| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you
can't be there. |

Sandra
Ehrich is a familiar face to many of us at Sertoma. She has been
a member of the club for eight years and is the daughter of one
of the founders of our organization. Bob Ehrich. Together they
own and operate Ehrich Appraisals and work with banks, financial
institutions and real estate people in the Brainerd Lakes and
Baxter area. Sandra has been involved in the company for the
past nine and one half years and her father has over 30 years of
experience. She is also the bookkeeper and general go-to person
in the office. Sandra joined Sertoma because of her family
connection and she is currently serving as treasurer. Other
projects included Sertoma of the Day organizer, Relay for Life
Team Captain, and the Parks Committee. Sandra is the divorced
mother of a four year old budding ballerina. She loves to walk
and water-ski. She and four other friends got involved in a
group effort to lose weight that resulted in a total of 325
pounds in a year. Sandra herself looks very fit and trim! Her
most embarrassing moment was the inspiration for her
motto-"Never eat a Sertoma brat when you are pregnant!" and
definitely disproved her pregnancy coach's statement that one
really didn't have to worry about their water breaking at Cub
Foods! |

Of
Note |
Happy
Birthday to one of our illustrious founders-Bob Ehrich. Bob
helped to make Sertoma into the huge success it has been in the
past thirty years and we are looking forward to keeping him
around for a long time.Dick Stoltman is the proud father of
the bride--he was happy to pay a fine today to announce his
daughter's engagement.
Les Franz is scheduled for his knee surgery August 29th. He
is planning on attending the Anniversary party so if you haven't
had a chance to visit with him--sign up and attend.
Welcome two new members who joined today--Nathan Kempka from
BITS and Bob Morey from Edina Realty
Santa (Bob Badger, Joyce Mikesh's significant other) is
recovering well from his colon cancer surgery. Pam Sachs is
looking forward to some more great Santa times with him!

Business Notes |
|
The Dancing Man is a great way for your business to
attract attention. Having a sale? Doing customer
appreciation? Rent the Dancing Man! See Paul Heinlen for
details.
Pam Sachs' first experience with the appraisal process
went smoothly and without a hitch because she used her
Sertoma connections to get Ehrich Appraisals on the job!
Thanks to Ron Morris and Insty-Prints for the civic
minded sponsorship of the Triathlon. Sertomans continue
to support the community in many ways besides their
involvement in our club.
Boy does Bonnie Cumberland have a great pair of glasses.
She took some antique frames to Midwest Family Eye and
had them fitted with lenses. Good job Jackie McCall.
Can your business donate prizes for the Winter
Wonderland Kids Contest? Contact Bonnie C if you have
some ideas.

Rumor Corner
|
- All three of the sergeants bailed today--great last minute
fill in by Bryan Jelinski. Somehow no one was fooled when the
three clowns at the Dog Pound table introduced themselves as the
missing people (Olson, Bolt and Clausen guilty as charged).
- Pam Sachs wishes to take this opportunity to thank everyone
who allows her to make reading the newsletter FUN! It is so good
to know that people are appreciating the humor involved in the
rumor corner and the picture decorations.
- Join the HO HO HO Elves with Selves committee-see Bonnie C
for details.
- Dave Clausen had a risque day today--he was accused of being
"close" to Sandra and Slippery Dick said his engaged daughter's
successful wedding completely depended on Dave's performance.
HMMMMMM????
- Some anonymous clown tried to sign Gary Walters up for the
Triathlon. He didn't care whether it was the kids or adults
event!
- Bob Morey got a newbie fine today, welcome to the club!
- Bill Goers and Anna Gorecky were arranging a blind date? A
beach date? Anyway some kind of date.
- Hey Culligan Man is no longer a viable slogan--our Culligan
man's office contains no men, just LoAnn and the ladies.
