Theresa
Harsha, who is program coordinator for Senior Outreach from
the Kitchigami Regional Library, was today's guest speaker.
Theresa and her group have organized a pilot program in Crow
Wing and Wadena Counties to provide library services to
elderly shut-ins in private homes and senior care
facilities. Theresa is holding the senior sack which is
pre-prepared using 8 themes such as romance or western and
including 3 books that the seniors can keep for a month. The
Senior Tote contains 8 books, 4 dvd's and 4 audio books that
also stay at a senior care center for a month. The program
has been so successful that they are running out of totes!
Theresa encouraged Sertoma members who wanted to get
involved to fill out an application. The year 2030 will see
people over age 65 make up 24% of the population, double its
current rate. Programs such as this are invaluable aides to
those wishing to remain in their own homes as long as
possible. Theresa remarked, "We had a few glitches but the
reception has been fantastic and all we need to continue is
more volunteers". |

Schedule |
| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you

| Sertoman of the Day |
Brenda
Kelley was today's honored Sertoman. Brenda is a new member
who was invited to the club by Steve Augustinack but abandoned
at the door. She was sponsored by Jeff Fitch who "stole" her
from Gus. Brenda was raised in North Dakota and both her parents
were teachers. She met her husband David through the Jaycees.
Their company is called DB Kelley Farms and the little ones they
raise are an integral part of their business. The farm is
located in the Fort Ripley area. Brenda jumped right into all
the aspects of pig farming from vaccinating through processing.
Their animals are raised in a natural environment and their meat
is processed under the FDA standards so they are allowed to sell
directly to consumers as well as stores. The also process
venison in the fall. They have been doing this together for
eight years and Brenda is certainly enthusiastic about her farm
life and product. Brenda was born in Germany when her father was
in the army and came to the area in 1994. Pam Sachs has sampled
some of the excellent products produced at DB Kelley Farms at
the Classic Golf Tournament and can personally say "Yum!Yum". |

Of
Note |
Karen
Owen is back from the convention and just gave us a short
update--guess what even with the dog pound we are a "young"
club. Karen was the youngest district governor in training. Her
and Mark will be giving a more complete report at a later date.
TOB (Tough Old Broad) Karla Nelson returned with a good report
about her progress in coming back from her pericardial
infection. Les Franz is still at Bethany. Prayers and support to
Gus and Ginger--Ginger was just released from the hospital after
some emergency surgery. We should also include Kevin Goedker's
father Gene in our prayers this week--his is hospitalized with
heart problems.Congratulations to our GEM Award Winners. Anna
Gorecky and Jeff Fitch have gathered together all the necessary
achievements to be award the Good Enthusiastic Member Award
which can only be won in the rookie year. They will be presented
with plaques also, but today were given their pins. |

Rumor Corner
|
-
Queen LoAnn Reponen reigned over the meeting today. Korte's
rules went out the window as she continued to follow her own
agenda, pronounce her own version of Sertoma, and go barefoot to
keep from wobbling! Actually LoAnn is not one bit intimidated by
the Dog Pound or Sertoma and is very much in command. Good job!!
-
Stevey Ray Mau was commiserating with LoAnn after the meeting
about the joy of being president. He decided she definitely
could run a talk show--Dr. LoAnn. Her ending remark, "You know
life is going good if there is not enough time in the day."
-
Karen Owen not only spent two days in training to be a district
governor, she also spent some time in Denver learning the art of
creating the bloody Mary or so the rumor goes.
-
Gee, an awful lot of people got fined for non-existent tatoos or
ones they wouldn't show. Kathy Williams has a tat? Steve Mau has
a tat? Wow!
-
Beth Burnard paid our new GEM Awards guys fines for not getting
"ugly" included in the award ceremony.
-
David Allen Pundt got fined for coming in late and coming in at
all.
-
Bob Nibbe may have thought he was at a Jewish wedding-something
about glass stomping!
-
The Dog Pound can't apply for the Library outreach program--not
only do they NOT read, they don't even listen!
