Camp
Sertoma is in full swing and the room was filled with a
plethora of black Camp Sertoma t-shirts as the group that
helps out from the Camp Sertoma Club joined us for lunch
today. Someone remarked on the black t-shirts and we learned
that the campers design the shirt for the next year.
Representing Camp Sertoma at today's meeting and pictured in
no particular order are: Pam Johnson from Fargo-Moorhead,
Greg Fults from Camp Sertoma, Susan Fix from New Ulm, Milo
Johnson from Brainerd, Carole Paulson from Brainerd, Laura
Beilke from Brainerd, Bette Lee from Camp Sertoma, Wayne
Flagge from New Ulm, Chris Ellison from College City, Gene
Finger from College City and Kirk Alford from Camp Sertoma.
Their motto is, "We are there because we love it!" They
thanked us all for our involvement and put out an urgent
request for a photographer to help out a few days. To date,
this year, we have donated about $8200 to Camp Sertoma.
President Mark Korte gave his state of the union address. He
recognized all the people who had been present at the
induction with a few additions. Our new treasurer elect is
Karen Munsterteiger. Tad Hoskins and Matt Davis will be
chairing the rookie party. Tad is also Kari Barnes' new
assistant for pipe and drape. Nanci Williams is the social
committee chair. Andy Holmes and Lowell Carlson will be
handling chaplain duties. Paul Heinlen will be the go-to
person to rent the Dancing Man that we inherited from the
Pequot Lakes Club. Mark's goals are: to work on promoting
new membership but in terms of quality not quantity, look
into setting up an endowment fund to deal with the issues of
large amounts of money that may be generated by Winter
Wonderland, get the by-laws and articles of incorporation up
to date, voted on and in place, organizing a Serteen Club
that may just be part of another youth organization, and to
keep Sertoma a fun place to work and play. This includes
more involvement on the committee level for the vice
presidents and an informal first Tuesday of the month
officer's meeting. Mark concluded, "We are aging as a club,
membership is down in service clubs all over the country,
and I want to see that our Sertoma legacy continues in the
Brainerd Lakes area." |

| Greeter
Schedule |
| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you
can't be there. |

| Sertoman of the Day |
Dale
Bolt presented a witty and charming account of his life as a
Sertoman today. Dale has a degree in Fashion Merchandising and
is very grateful to the person who talked him into the insurance
business. He is the owner and agent at Agency One Insurance. His
notes indicate that his job is to manage the 6 other employees
and to assist his clients with proper risk management decisions.
He has been an agent since 1981 and really enjoys his job. He
remarked, "I get to meet the best people in Crow Wing County."
Dale grew up in Edgerton, a famous very small basketball town;
has been married to his wife Shelley for 31 years. They have two
children and a brand new grandchild. His hobbies are getting
involved and helping the community so he is a great fit in the
Sertoma Club. His sponsor is no longer a member. His friends on
the golf course call him Lightning Bolt and his wife calls him
Dead Bolt. He agreed to be Sertoman of the Day but got bucky at
the most embarrassing moment section. We got the impression that
Sue promised him that he could skip that part! A little creative
photo enhancement took care of the problem. He warned us to
watch out for Sue--she is very insistent in her new job as
Sertoman of the Day Director. However, Dale is not afraid to
make fun of himself--the description of his job was not the only
one he shared with the group--he said, "I drink coffee, make
sure the computer is turned on, and let my customers win at
golf." |

|
Invalid updates on Karla and Les were given today. Pam told us
Karla is home from the hospital and on a wait and see program.
She will not be physically up to par for some time, but
hopefully the problem is an infection that will clear up.
Otherwise major heart surgery may be on the agenda. Lynn Franz
came to Sertoma today to give us messages about and from Les. He
is very grateful to the Swinging Sertomans who went to his house
and cleaned up the storm damage when he first went back to the
hospital. He is currently in Bethany and will be there for six
weeks until he recovers enough from the staph infection to get a
new knee replacement for the one they were forced to remove. He
cannot walk and Lynn encouraged everyone to keep the cards,
letters, and visits coming since he is not a patient patient.
His phone is 855-1642 and he is in room 642. On a happier
note--welcome back Hawk and Doug Campbell. |

Scott Fisher of Northeast Liquor encourages all of you
to get your refreshment needs at his store on your way
to Cub Foods of Baxter. Speaking of Cub Foods, the
company was again the go-to lifesaver for food donations
when they provided bread for Camp Sertoma this week.
Thanks again Steve, Bryan, and Jeff for all you do for
Camp Confidence and Camp Sertoma.

Rumor Corner
|
-
Thanks Tad Hoskins for helping out at the greeter table today.
Tad was proud to introduce his son Caleb and paid a happy fine
because he hadn't seen him for over a year. Doug Campbell paid a
happy fine because he hadn't seen his son for over a year.
Scotty Fisher and Doug's wife were calling each other today on
the cell phones or at least that is the Dog Pound rumor.
-
Sheriff Todd Dahl is going to have to give our new chairman of
the come late and leave early committee a police escort so she
can spend at least 20 minutes at Sertoma. The Tooth Fairy has
pull with the sheriff since his wife works in her office.
-
Mark says that Dale definitely is the go-to person to help out
if you are in a bind on a Sertoma activity! Of course that is
the same person who is operating by Korte's rules that include
adding a day to June, forgetting to invite the chairman of the
board to his first informal meeting, talking about the president
dudes in Denver, keeping Karen Owen line at the International
Convention, and getting fined for his 25 year old wedding photo
with the Adam Ant glasses and the bad hair day.
-
Mark Korte and Dave Clausen got in an endowment fund discussion
that got a bit rowdy and ended up being a "best endowed"
discussion that had shades of the locker room. Then one of our
guests from Camp Sertoma got up and showed us the very slight
difference between the sign for hungry and the sign for
something quite risque and not appropriate for children. We were
invited to hang out at Camp but warned to stay away from the
Kitchen Nazis if we didn't want to be put to work.
-
Not only was Carol Winegar appointed chairman of the get there
late and leave early committee but she also got fined for being
whining whinagar.
