The
presenter for today's program was Carol Russell
representing the advertising firm, Russell Herder.
Located in Minneapolis, MN. As one of the founding
partners of Russell Herder, Carol has dedicated much
of her career to developing and guiding growth
strategies for brands in the healthcare,
hospitality, building products and professional
services industries. Her insights and leadership
have driven strategic work for such high profile
organizations as the State of Minnesota, Destination
Hotels & Resorts, General Mills and Wellcraft
Marine. The presentation was entitled Social Media
which is now the number one activity on the web.
Facebook for instance had nine hundred million users
in about as many months. Generation Y considers
email to be passe. Wikipedia has over thirteen
million articles. Word of Mouth has become World of
Mouth. Bloggers influence the mass markets. Google
and other search engines are much more trusted by
consumers than advertising. More and more people are
watching videos on their phones. Products will soon
find us through social media. This genre which has
grown from 27% to 43% in one year, includes Facebook,
YouTube, Linked In, Twitter,Flickr, My Space, etc.
It is defined as community of people who share
interests online. It is an entirely different way of
doing business and forming relationships. Russell
Herder did a nationwide survey of businesses about
this topic. Eighty one percent thought that it would
enhance relationships with customers. Other
advantages are to build company brands and find new
customers. Seventy five percent of the people
Russell Herder polled intend to use social
networking soon. It is the NEW place to get a job.
Just the Minnesota statistics provide a better
contact base than the Sunday edition of the Star
Tribune. The middle age group is the fastest
growing. Carol stressed how effective Ruttgers and
the Chamber are using this tool in the Brainerd
Area. Word of mouth marketing is hugely effective.
Mayo Clinic is using social media to get the word
out about their staff, program and patients. They
are also providing online support groups in a secure
environment. Hospitals are using Twitter and
YouTube. Crisis Communication for the Fargo flood
was covered through the hospital social networking
site. However, there are some downsides to these
programs.Workers get too involved in the personal
aspects of this. It also poses a corporate security
risk, so four in ten are now blocking access. Many
people do not consider the ethical consequences of
things that they post. Companies need to have a
written social media policy and need to conduct
training for their employees. The Internet is
definitely changing the world! |

minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and

Note |
Dave Pundt is looking for entertainment for the Thursday, Friday,
Saturday night at the Holiday Village.821-2175
We will miss our Amy Doyle from Grand Casino. Welcome to her
replacement Kevin Oslin.
We noted the servicemen and veterans in our prayers on this
Holiday that honors them for their efforts to preserve our
freedom. Mary had all the veterans stand at the end of the
meeting for some more recognition.
Mary thanked all who have helped with the Winter Wonderland set
up. She also encouraged everyone to turn in their volunteer
hours. |

Facebook |
| This is the link to the official Facebook
page for the club. It will now be an interactive
way for members to share pictures and comment on
club activities. As with Walters Wacky
Adventures Page--you can visit it without being
a member of Facebook. Creating a Facebook
account is easy and free. You can limit access
to your page and just communicate with those
people who are really your friends. Signing up
is simple and by creating your "own" page you
give yourself interactive abilities on the
Brainerd Area Sertoma site. You can completely
ignore your personal page if you wish. However,
the profile and information pages may become THE
way for us to update your data base information
in the future. I am also totally available for
phone consultations for people who want me to
walk them through the Facebook site. For
instance--Jeff Fitch has promised me by Monday
you will be able to view his awesome barbecue
pictures. Les Franz also took some photos at the
party and maybe we can get him to join and
upload those!! |

-
Discussion in the dog pound wasn't even totally focused on four
legged deer today. Some mention of tip toeing, purses and
condoms caught the newsletter editor's ear.
-
John Raboin gets his face on phonebooks but at least he looks
professional. The guy on the billboards in his wifebeater shirt
isn't someone I would hire to represent me in court.
-
Pam Bye appointed herself treasurer for the day--at least that
was her excuse for stealing Karen Munsterteiger's "spot" by the
podium. Karen was a sport though-she didn't sit on her!!
-
Uncle Art gave Dale Bolt the razz madazz for not knowing that he
"preps' the tickets by splitting up a goodly number and throwing
them into the pot.
-
Sandy Fowler sneaked in in time for introductions but her
"friends" let everyone know she was late.
-
Mary Marana gave everyone "another" lesson on how to say the
Pledge. We did good! Let's not forget-no pause between "one
nation" and "under god".
-
Welcome to Cathe's family. Both Jerry and Judd showed up today
to help with Winter Wonderland!
-
Sertoma Curling didn't get skunked last week--that's all Curling
John would admit to.
-
David Allen Pundt was back and introduced himself as "Appleby's
Host".
-
Mary claimed to have seen Todd Dahl on tv last night.
-
DAP didn't want to enlist Santa Stripper for the holiday village
even though Bryan Jelinske was advertising his new job.
-
LoAnnism--Mary had to fill in some mighty big shoes, but she
managed to garble up "notoriety".
-
LoAnn lost her truck keys on Saturday at Winter Wonderland and
her truck ignition found them. No undergarments ended up on top
of the displays thank heavens.
-
"Come out and Watch Me" fine for DAP--something about a
production in Pequot Lakes. Bill claimed David was paying his
mother to attend the performance.
-
Our speaker had to admit she graduated from Cass Lake High
School with a certain attorney.

Notes from your President |
|
It was nice to have a full house at our meeting today. As I've
stated several times we are VERY BUSY people involved in MANY
worthwhile projects for our community. I don't have to tell you
we are heading into our BUSY TIME.....I would like to take this
opportunity to THANK YOU in advance for all you do and will do.
We have WONDERFUL volunteers that have stepped forward and taken
lead roles for many projects. It is important that we support
them with our time and talents. We need to be responsible to
them and sign-up when we are able...and show-up when we have
committed. We all volunteer to give back to our
community.....let's not forget to APPRECIATE each other and have
FUN :) Lets be the kind of people that when our feet hit the
floor in the morning....the devil says "Oh crap" go ....DO GOOD
THINGS :)
