Program
Kevin Provost was the speaker for today's program on heart health and the Brainerd Lakes Heart and Vascular Center. This is a new project that started in May at St. Joseph's hospital. Kevin explained that the need in the community prompted this addition and remodel to their present facility. It got its start with an anonymous one million dollar donation matched by the St. Joseph's Foundation.St.Joseph is asking for help to raise 4 million needed to complete the project. The economy and the need for the high priced machinery has made it necessary for the hospital to start a donation program with a donor wall. Officially it is due to open in January. The completed facility will be 18,000 square feet and include 24 hour cardiac care. The remodel in the construction includes is focused on the lobby. St. Joseph's transfers about 300 patients a year to different area heart facilities and this program should reach most of them without the delays that sometimes can cause serious complications. The mission of the center is to provide a comprehensaive team-based program of high quality patient centered heart care. The two other organizations which have partnered with St. Joseph's are St. Mary's Duluth Clinic Heart Center and Central Minnesota Heart Center of CentrCare. The scope of the program includes: invasive/interventional cardiology services, the interventional peripheral vascular disease services, the clinical cardiology program, the non-invasive diagnostic imaging, and inpatient care. It will not include cardiovascular surgery. The center's cath lab will provide that immediate care that will save lives after a heart attack. They are planning on attracting at least three cardiologists who will live and work in the Brainerd Area.
Thanks Pam Sachs for taking notes, Kari Satre for taking pictures, and Bonnie Cumberland for taking attendance.
Announcements

Winter Wonderland Announcements The sign up online will be up and running Thursday November 5th. Remember the information does not show up until the following day. http://sertomawinterwonderland.com/ww-sign-up-form.html Hours and numbers of people needed are less than last year because of the reduction in hours at the Holiday Village. Sunday November 22nd is the first day that the inside can be decorated. Sign up at the meeting or call Nanci Hallam to help with this project--they are working three days in a row. Watch your email for announcements about work at the Arb! Bulb checking is going on Thursday and Friday with outside groups. Tad encouraged everyone to join in if you want to help. They are also going to put up displays at the Arb. So come for an hour or two if you can. Display people need work gloves, a small heavy hammer, and wire cutters. Display Set Up is getting to crunch time. Mike Boen collected alphabetized list today with phone number and they plan on using a calling tree to set up work times especially for next week when things need to be finished November 10-12th. There is a work crew planned for Saturday afternoon at the Arb for those non deer hunters.
Jaime Rowlette is the King Rook--give him all the input he needs to get started on the Rookie Party.
New Roster is up. Badges have also been updated so check and make sure yours is accurate. New members get a temporary red badge until they go through orientation and get approved by the board. Use a business card as a temporary name filler. 30

It is your job to greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate. The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you can't be there.

Of Note
Mike Boen received his thank you note for BL Broadcasting's contribution to the very successful Coats for Kids campaign from David Downing today. An estimated 2000 coats were distributed with many thankful stories from the recipients. Thanks to Crystal Cleaners, the radio station and Kinship for continuing this effort to keep children warm! Mike encouraged us to patronize Crystal Cleaners because of all their hard work on this worthwhile community project.

One of the many groups that has helped out with Bulb Checking and work at the Burlington Northern facility includes the staff at Confidence Learning Center. Wednesday afternoon saw most of them out working with the displays in an effort to support the Sertomans in their biggest project of the year. Thanks Confidence Learning Center!!
Facebook
This is the link to the official Facebook page for the club. It will now be an interactive way for members to share pictures and comment on club activities. As with Walters Wacky Adventures Page--you can visit it without being a member of Facebook. Creating a Facebook account is easy and free. You can limit access to your page and just communicate with those people who are really your friends. Signing up is simple and by creating your "own" page you give yourself interactive abilities on the Brainerd Area Sertoma site. You can completely ignore your personal page if you wish. However, the profile and information pages may become THE way for us to update your data base information in the future. I am also totally available for phone consultations for people who want me to walk them through the Facebook site. For instance--Jeff Fitch has promised me by Monday you will be able to view his awesome barbecue pictures. Les Franz also took some photos at the party and maybe we can get him to join and upload those!!
Business Notes

DB Kelly farms wants to remind you that they have tons of refrigerated storing space for your deer if the warm weekend opener prediction comes true.

Rumor Corner

  • Bonanza woes--we don't get a discount for sticky tables, empty salt and pepper shakers and ice cream machines that DO NOT WORK because someone forgot to turn them on or something. Perhaps we should "fine" the management of this establishment.
  • Karen Munsterteiger want to be in the prayers not make them. She was doing the microphone dance with Preacher Andi. Karen's Halloween nun outfit wasn't complete until she borrowed Anita Travica's maiden name and went as Sister Anita Dick.
  • Hunters--take your deer quickly the DB Kelley farms before the heat wave gets them!
  • Mary Marana has a new hair do--very pretty and nice color.
  • Rod Converse--rattlesnake rancher, Art Becker retiredrus, Charlie Bartels--that's all folks.
  • Sertoma Curling won in overtime Sunday night--Mr. Raboin threw the winning "curl"
  • LoAnnism--welcome back "vintage" member Rod Converse.
  • Mike Boen vandalized his own car--breaking a window to get his keys so he can vacate the boat landing.
  • Heidi Funk had an expensive vacation photo, Loann left her badge at work, and Paul Keprios and Mary Marana have been having secret rendezvous.
  • Bryan Barrer got confused at vision and hearing screening and was asking the kids to take their shoes off.
  • John Raboin confused Mrs. Gropper who came to his house for trick and treat-she thought he was the kid not the parent.
  • Write to Terry at Anderson Brothers if you want money.

Notes from your President
It was nice to have a full house at our meeting today. As I've stated several times we are VERY BUSY people involved in MANY worthwhile projects for our community. I don't have to tell you we are heading into our BUSY TIME.....I would like to take this opportunity to THANK YOU in advance for all you do and will do. We have WONDERFUL volunteers that have stepped forward and taken lead roles for many projects. It is important that we support them with our time and talents. We need to be responsible to them and sign-up when we are able...and show-up when we have committed. We all volunteer to give back to our community.....let's not forget to APPRECIATE each other and have FUN :)

Lets be the kind of people that when our feet hit the floor in the morning....the devil says "Oh crap" go ....DO GOOD THINGS :)
