Program
Laura Beilke who is our Foundation Rep and Karen Owen who is District Governor presented today. President LoAnn complimented both of these active members on their willingness to go above and beyond our club in responsibility. Karen remarked, "Our club excels and what we excel in is camaraderie." Karen delivered the badges that we won this year. Our Brainerd Club banner is missing and she is putting out the word to return it if you know where it is. Recruitment and retention are the mainstays of the energize theme. Membership in the region and district is declining, but we can do something about it by simply asking people to join. One of Karen's goals is to expand the Safe Ears.

A new regional director is being elected and Karen presented the two candidates. To vote you need to attend the convention in Minot. Karen is sharing information on their Dreams and Inspirations Program which is a series of retreats providing peer experiences to serve the cultural needs of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. For instance a retreat was recently held targeting members of the Deaf community who are also dealing with breast cancer. Laura talked about donations to the Annual Fund. We are 100% participation club with each member donating $25. This money goes to scholarships for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students as well as students who are entering fields that relate to the cause. The Foundation supports Safe Ears. There is another new program related to hearing in the works. Because Camp Sertoma and Brainerd Area Sertoma Club are affiliates, both Emily and Jenni are now eligible to apply for grants for their programs. The Foundation has matching grants for worthwhile club causes also.

Thanks Pam Sachs for taking notes, Kari Satre for taking pictures, and Bonnie Cumberland for taking attendance.

Brandon Burnard, Beth's nephew, is having some eye issues and is headed to Mayo. Keep him in your prayers.
Buford is home and doing great--thanks from Diane for all the prayers and well wishes. George seconded that motion with his remark "Your prayers really work!"

Welcome new Deerwood Bank member Tony Loosbrock.
Facebook
This is the link to the official Facebook page for the club. It will now be an interactive way for members to share pictures and comment on club activities. As with Walters Wacky Adventures Page--you can visit it without being a member of Facebook. Creating a Facebook account is easy and free. You can limit access to your page and just communicate with those people who are really your friends. Signing up is simple and by creating your "own" page you give yourself interactive abilities on the Brainerd Area Sertoma site. You can completely ignore your personal page if you wish. However, the profile and information pages may become THE way for us to update your data base information in the future. I am also totally available for phone consultations for people who want me to walk them through the Facebook site. For instance--Jeff Fitch has promised me by Monday you will be able to view his awesome barbecue pictures. Les Franz also took some photos at the party and maybe we can get him to join and upload those!!
