Program
Sheriff Todd Dahl presented as Sertoma Businessman of the Month. He started out with a John Raboin joke and then introduced himself as the County Sheriff for the past three years with 24 years in law enforcement. Todd is married for sixteen years and has two children. He grew up in Brainerd and attended Bemidji State University. His background is very much teaching oriented with firearms training and marshal arts. Special ops has always been his passion. Todd is very proud of the fact that they are working very hard to get narcotics off the street. The drugs today are downright scary. He focused on restructuring the department to establish a special force to concentrate on this problem. They have eliminated three marijuana farms in the past year. Reporting to their office has improved. His office encompasses 133 employees. within the Sheriff's division. Summer time involves 50 deputies as compared to 15 when he started. Sheriff Dahl talked about the differences in criminal investigation today including things like identity theft and cyber crimes. They have one officer specializing in these areas. Parents have to keep much better tabs on their children and their activities. His most embarrassing moments came with split pants in the middle of emergencies. Todd joined Sertoma to become part of a community "family" and to work with a fun-loving group of people. He talked about the wonderful education and great up-bringing he had in the community. He wants to give back to that community and that is exactly what Sertoma does. He has reached his goal-to be sheriff of Crow Wing County and hopes to continue to do good work.
Thanks Pam Sachs for taking notes, Kari Satre for taking pictures, and Bonnie Cumberland for taking attendance.

Facebook
This is the link to the official Facebook page for the club. It will now be an interactive way for members to share pictures and comment on club activities. As with Walters Wacky Adventures Page--you can visit it without being a member of Facebook. Creating a Facebook account is easy and free. You can limit access to your page and just communicate with those people who are really your friends. Signing up is simple and by creating your "own" page you give yourself interactive abilities on the Brainerd Area Sertoma site. You can completely ignore your personal page if you wish. However, the profile and information pages may become THE way for us to update your data base information in the future. I am also totally available for phone consultations for people who want me to walk them through the Facebook site. For instance--Jeff Fitch has promised me by Monday you will be able to view his awesome barbecue pictures. Les Franz also took some photos at the party and maybe we can get him to join and upload those!!
Business Notes
Rumor Corner

  • Art Becker has a new job--Brainerd Dispatch Complaint department.
  • LoAnnism--she couldn't pronounce her last name today!!
  • Cub Foods is sponsoring the Bucks for Books this year!
  • Mark Korte's happy fine for the whole club-we all remembered our name.
  • Since we didn't have time for fines today--here is a little funny so you have something to brighten up your day.
    • Why isn't the number 11 pronounced onety-one?
    • If 4 out of 5 people SUFFER from diarrhea does that mean that one out of five enjoys it?
    • Why do croutons come in airtight packages? Aren't they just stale bread to begin with?
    • If people from Poland are called Poles, then why aren't people from Holland called Holes?
    • If a pig loses its voice, is it disgruntled?
    • Why is a person who plays the piano called a pianist, but a person who drives a racecar is not called a racist?
    • If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?
    • If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, then doesn't it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted, cowboys deranged, models deposed, tree surgeons debarked, and dry cleaners depressed?
    • If Fed Ex and UPS were to merge, would they call it Fed UP??
    • Do Lipton Tea employees take "coffee breaks?"
    • What hair color do they put on the driver's licenses of bald men?
    • I thought about how mothers feed their babies with tiny little spoons and forks, so I wondered what do Chinese mothers use, toothpicks?
    • Why do they put pictures of criminals up in the Post Office? What are we supposed to do, write to them? Why don't they just put their pictures on the postage stamps so the mailmen can look for them while they deliver the mail?
    • Is it true that you never really learn to swear until you learn to drive?
    • If a cow laughed, would milk come out of her nose?
    • Whatever happened to Preparations A through G?
    • As income tax time approaches, did you ever notice: When you put the two words "The" and "IRS" together, it spells "THEIRS"?

Notes from your President
It was nice to have a full house at our meeting today. As I've stated several times we are VERY BUSY people involved in MANY worthwhile projects for our community. I don't have to tell you we are heading into our BUSY TIME.....I would like to take this opportunity to THANK YOU in advance for all you do and will do. We have WONDERFUL volunteers that have stepped forward and taken lead roles for many projects. It is important that we support them with our time and talents. We need to be responsible to them and sign-up when we are able...and show-up when we have committed. We all volunteer to give back to our community.....let's not forget to APPRECIATE each other and have FUN :)

Lets be the kind of people that when our feet hit the floor in the morning....the devil says "Oh crap" go ....DO GOOD THINGS :)
