Program

Today was the local chili cook-off--we voted on the winning recipe and Lori Rubin's samples took the prize. The theme of this year's Sertoma booth is centered around the Sertoma Gang cooking their chili in jail. The committee was represented by Joe Schulte and Lori today and they promised excellent costumes to go with the superb chili. Heidi Funk also took this opportunity to share the new United Way brochures with the group. They were donated by Wasau Paper and Range Printing. Partner groups associated with Sertoma through membership are Crisis Line, Kinship, Lutheran Social Services, Lakes Area Senior Activity Center, and Confidence Learning Center. We also contributed to many of the others on the list. Many businesses that support Sertoma are also included as sponsors of the United Way. Heidi had a little fun when she got to the section that explained the focus of giving for United Way. John Raboin supposedly paid her to promote the Safe Ride Home Program which his office supports. Heidi was very enthusiastic about getting kids involved in the Imagination Library. Other focal programs included Biggest Loser, Women's Health, Give Kids a Smile and the Free Tax Sites. She also encouraged people to help them find 20 qualified families working towards financial independence since they have federal money waiting for the matching savings program. Remember NO MEETING SEPTEMBER 24TH--HELP THE GANG WIN THE COOKOFF!

Thanks Pam Sachs for taking notes.

Sertoman of the Day

Mr. Paul (I didn't write anything down) Heinlen was the honored Sertoman of the Day today. Paul was brought into the club by his significant other Lori Rubin. They have been together for several years and between them share four children. His hobbies include anything and everything in the great outdoors. Paul is a realtor with Weichert Realtors Tower Properties. Tower Properties recently joined Weichert which is the largest independent real estate franchise in the country. Paul has been with them for the past four years and in the real estate business for 6. Tower has been around for 20 years. Paul is a realtor but he also is part of the advertising committee and is working with mentoring new employees. The company has 28 agents. Paul jumped into life in Sertoma in a big way. Since Lori was a repeat rookie at the same time, they had a chance to work on the Ritz Rookie Party together. Paul took over the gossamer ceiling for a year, helped extensively with Winter Wonderland, and currently is managing the Dancing Man we inherited from the Pequot Lakes Sertoma club, to mention just a few of his activities in the club. Thanks Paul for all you do to make Sertoma work. Pyro Paul shared the story of how he made the almost fatal mistake of trying to glue down a friend's basement carpet with some highly flammable outdoor glue. Fortunately the house and Paul both survived the flames!!

Of Note
Mark Korte announced the presentation of the check to fund the Camp Confidence Winter Wonderland Display for the next two years. Pam Sachs sponsors this display for Confidence.

Jeff Fitch added his thanks to those conveyed last week by Jim Grant for the SafeEars volunteers. The committee continues to meet to plan the expansion of this program. Wow!! We had three original greeters today--thanks Bryan Barrer, DeAnn Barry and Nathan Kempka. Welcome back Tami Webb--she is sporting a new 10 year membership pin!! She was joined by DeAnn Barry, Paul Heinlen, Hawk, and Reed Campbell in the Where Ya Been Club.

Rumor Corner
  • Mike Boen got into a Viagra for the microphone discussion today at the beginning of the sergeant's stint. An unknown banker person across from the newslady remarked, "Just play with it, Mike,"
  • Mark Korte was blowing bubbles in the hot tub at Rainy Lake and it finally caught up with him today!!
  • Congratulations to the shy and retiring Andy Isackson who was forced to announce his engagement today.
  • Jeff Fitch got in deep dark serious trouble all the way around for his neglectful action of missing Sertoma the day he was scheduled to be Sertoman of the Day.
  • You can get in trouble if you eat your dessert before the pledge. Sergeant Mike has figured out that the dog pound gets to Sertoma early to get eating out of the way so that they have more time for heckling. Kari Robinson made a virgin trip to the dog pound today--keeping Tami company!!
  • Brian Lehman is a politician and had to pay the fine of the missing Dave today.
  • Dick Stoltman brought a boat to Sertoma today and Mike decided we were all going boating with him after the meeting and then he was taking us to the DQ. Inquiring minds want to know how Dick and Shannon used the same ticket and manned the SAFEEARS booth at the same time.
  • Anita Travica showed off her stand up comedy routine today. Mike Boen wants to hire her for an employee function. Thanks for sharing Anita.
  • Nibbe Imppe fines today.
  • Congratulations Jeff Olson on your second best boss blurb in the paper--everyone else was tied for first.
  • Charlie Bartels is now celebrating abstract reality. He left early and Scotty Fisher signed him up for a job!!
